Pre-Election Peace Summits

Several domestic and international bodies have brought attention to the potential of Ghana’s 2016 national elections leading to violence and conflict throughout the country. Seeing the imperative to actively “wage peace” in advance of these elections and realizing the power of religious institutions and leaders to spread a message of peace to their communities, 72 Africa hosted an interfaith peace summit in one of the most vulnerable regions of Ghana in August. We are pleased to report that the summit participants have gone back to their communities and put into place actions to cultivate peace before, during, and after the elections.

When most people think of “hotspots” in Africa, they do not think of Ghana.
